Plaster of Paris Ganesh idols immersion pollutes rivers, lakes and wells!
star6 Lakh idols sold every year in Pune alone
star5 Lakh idols are made out of Plaster of Paris (POP)
starPlaster Paris does not dissolve in water
starLarge quantities of partially submerged pieces of idols choke the rivers
starPaints used for the idols cause harm to marine life and pollute the water
starLarge volume of water is used for immersion of idols
Is there a way to prevent this?
Yes, there is! – You can make it happen!
Pune Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Cummins, CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory(CSIR-NCL) and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board have come up with an eco-friendly immersion process of Ganesh idols!
For Ganesh idol immersion...
Follow an Eco-friendly Solution!!!
starPrevention of water pollution on large scale
starLiquid residue can be used as fertilizer for plants
starMultiple uses of calcium carbonate (sludge) which is a by-product
starVery simple to implement!
It is simple and safe – you can easily do it at home!
Plaster of Paris (calcium sulphate) is not soluble in water. Extensive research has given simple solution for dissolving POP Ganesh idols in water using ammonium bicarbonate (Baking Soda).
Be a part of the solution!
Let's celebrate an eco-friendly Ganesh Festival!!!
starThis eco-friendly process can be implemented for idols
at home and at the mandals.
starPune Municipal Corporation has installed demonstration tanks at few immersion points where this eco-friendly immersion process will be followed.
